Instructor Bios
2011 Instructors include the following...
Phil Strader

Phil Strader was the firearms instructor for the U.S. Capitol Police for eight years,
won the Steel Challenge three times, has been on two U.S. World Shoot teams and
has won more than 40 state, regional and national shooting competition titles.
Yet very few people outside the competitive shooting community even know who he
is. Perhaps this is because he's so unassuming about what he's accomplished.
He's usually the first person to poke fun at himself.
Max Michel

By anyone's account, Max Michel, Jr. is one of the best shooters in the world.
With three World Speed Shooting Championships (2009, 2007 and 2005), five USPSA
National Championships (2009, 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004), 2 US Steel National
Championships (2009, and 2008), 37 USPSA Area Championships, and nearly 100
Major Championship wins, Max Michel has become a dominant force in the pistol
shooting sports. Michel also owns multiple World Speed Shooting records as well
as the only Action Shooter to win all USPSA Area Championships in the same
season (2010). As an international competitor, Michel has represented the United
States in the last four International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC)
World Shoots and returned home each time with team gold medals. He will again
represent the nation in Rhodes, Greece at the 2011 World Shoot and anchor the
USA?s Open Division team.

Ted Puente

I
started shooting in 1993 when I entered the
Milwaukee Police Dept Training Bureau as a
Police Recruit. I immediately loved the sport of
shooting, and excelled taking high honors in
both marksmanship and combat shooting in my
recruit class. Police Academy combat pistol
training is very similar to IDPA shooting.
After graduating from the academy
I pursued tactical firearms training with
handguns, shotguns, AR-15 type rifles, and bolt
action rifles. My intent was to work on the
Street Crimes Unit/SWAT. I was assigned to the
Street Crimes Unit in 1998 and worked there
until 2000. In 2000 I re-entered the Police
Academy as a full time Firearms Instructor, and
have been teaching Police Officers the shooting
skills they need to stay alive ever since.
In 2000 I discovered the shooting sports.
I found that those sports were exactly what
Police Officers needed to simulate combat
stress. I studied the IPSC/USPSA Shooting Sports
and passed on the learned skills to the
approximately 2000 Police Officers Milwaukee
employs. By competing I learned not only how to
shoot better, but also how to teach. I have been
able to achieve the rank of Grand Master in both
Limited and Limited-10 divisions. I applied
myself to 3-Gun competition so I could become
better at teaching shotgun and rifle skills. In
2006 and 2007 I won the USPSA Limited Division
3-Gun National Championships. After achieving
this goal I focused on Limited Division Pistol
Competition. In 2009 I won the USPSA Limited
Division National Championships.
I
compete in a high profile position and do my
very best to be a good representative of all my
sponsors by displaying good sportsmanship,
integrity, friendliness, and patriotism.
